The Most Handsome Beggar Becomes Famous Online

Fashionable beggar becomes famous online, encounters human flesh search

“Those sad eyes/that sad expression, the sad mustache, the miraculous godly hair, and that messy hair, all of it has deeply captivated me.” …Recently, a very hot/popular beggar post has become famous on the internet, the post narrating what netizens have hailed as “The Ultimate Gorgeous #1 Passerby Handsome Guy” beggar. Owing to his unconventional, nondescript appearance as well as his original “mashup”, netizens have begun following him, even “human flesh searching” him.

Ningbo’s Handsome Guy Beggar is just a poor/pitiful guy

Many netizens have sent me messages asking me to verify whether that latest famous handsome guy begger is really a beggar. Here I will testify that it can be said that he is.

Long ago in 2008 I encountered him. Most people who see him will avoid him, treating him as a beggar and the link, but actually this is not accurate. 乞丐 [qǐgài "beggar"] in our country’s ancient words first appeared as a monosyllabic word. The meaning of 乞 [qǐ] in the golden texts was “to beg”. But he does not beg, nor does he know how to beg, because he has psychological problems (in Ningbo they call it “great fog sickness”). They do not have an identity, they do not have family, they’ve even forgotten who they are. They are a group of people abandoned by society, and their final outcome is to die without anyone inquiring about them. They wander in the space between humans and animals. Help them a bit and they become humans, ignore them and they are animals.

He once said this to me: “Find a girl to love me.”

The World's Best Haircut

David Davis Arrested For Stabbing Man While Getting Haircut: Cops

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Police say a man was getting a haircut at an apartment in Stamford, Conn., when he grabbed scissors and slashed another man in the back.

The Stamford Advocate reports that 21-year-old David Davis was arrested soon afterward when officers with a police dog found him in a nearby apartment. A police mug shot shows Davis with thick hair sticking up from only one side of his head.

Authorities say the victim approached Davis during his haircut Tuesday in what he called "an aggressive manner." Davis told investigators he picked up the scissors in self-defense.

Davis, who lives in New Haven, was being held on $5,000 bond.

The 21-year-old victim was taken to Stamford Hospital to receive treatment for the wound in his back.

Live Fast Die Younger

Live fast, die younger: Actors, singers and sportsman 'die seven and a half years before other high achievers'

Analysis of successful people found those in the public eye died younger
Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and more did not realise their potential
Young people considering chasing fame 'may face early death'

Stars such as Kurt Cobain, formerly of hit grunge band Nirvana, are more likely to die young, according to new research
Elvis Presley died in 1977, grossly overweight and addicted to drugs. In his prime he was the biggest music star the world had ever seen
Too soon: Best-selling novelist Ernest Hemingway was just 61 when he killed himself
Waste: American rocker and musical pioneer Jimi Hendrix was just 27 when he died, apparently from an overdose. His career in the musical mainstream lasted just four years

Fame really does have a price, research shows.

An analysis of the lives and deaths of almost 1,000 successful people found that pop stars, sportsmen and actors were more likely to die young.

The price of fame equated to up to seven and a half years of life, with military top brass living on average almost eight years longer than sports stars, singers and other performers, a medical journal reports.

The idea that musicians die young has long been a source of fascination, with the deaths of the likes of Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison still fodder for books and films decades later.

Using information from New York Times obituaries, the Australian researchers proved the trio to be far from from the exception to the rule.

They took obituaries published between 2009 and 2011 and pulled out information such as age of death, cause of death and occupation.

It was assumed that those deemed worthy of an obituary in the newspaper had had a successful career.

The analysis showed that performers, including actors and singers, died the youngest.

Their average age of death was 77 years and one month. In contrast, military personal were the longest lived, clocking up 84 years and 8 months, on average.

Sportspeople also fared badly, dying on average at the age of 77 years and 5 months. Writers and other ‘creatives’ weren’t far behind, with an average lifespan of 78 and a half.

In contrast, businesspeople and politicians tended to join army-types in living in to their 80, the article in QJM: An International Journal of Medicine reports.

Early deaths were linked to accidents and infections, including HIV and cancer.

Lung cancer deaths, which the researchers said were an indication of long-term smoking, were most common in those whose career was performance-based.

The study’s authors said that young people considering chasing fame may face the choice of fulfilling their career potential or living longer.

They added that while the results don’t prove anything, they raise some interesting possibilities, from pop stars indulging too much while famous, to them self-medicating afterwards.

Professor Richard Epstein, of St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, said: ‘First, if it is true that successful performers and sports players tend to enjoy shorter lives, does this imply that fame at younger ages predisposes to poor health behaviours in later life after success has faded?

‘Or that psychological and family pressures favouring unusually high public achievement lead to self-destructive tendencies throughout life?

‘Or that risk-taking personality traits maximise one’s chances of success, with the use of cigarettes, alcohol or illicit drugs improving one’s performance output in the short term?

‘Any of these hypotheses could be viewed as a health warning to young people aspiring to become stars.’

Another recent analysis of rock and pop stars found that many of those who died young had been abused when young.

The British researchers said that the trappings of a rock and roll lifestyle may be especially attractive to those who have had an unhappy childhood.

The World's Most Tragic Baby With Rarest Condition

Barrow Dad ‘Maternity staff helped us cope with nightmare’

THE father of a seriously ill baby says he would be devastated if Furness General Hospital lost its maternity unit.'

VIGIL Gemma Moorby and Jeffrey Holt keep watch over their baby Jasper Emily Barber

Jeffrey Holt’s tiny son Jasper was born by caesarean section on Monday after health problems were picked up by medical specialists at the 20-week scan.

The father-of-two says the help and compassion from staff helped him and partner Gemma Moorby, 26, deal with the news.

He admits it would have made their nightmare even worse if they had had to keep travelling out of town for appointments as well as caring for their eldest son, 19-month-old Oscar.

The 31-year-old explained how a routine scan turned their world upside down.

Mr Holt, of Leece Lane, Barrow, said: “We were told that Jasper had problems with his kidneys and brain. It was devastating. Days later we had to go to Newcastle. It has been a total nightmare. We were initially told the baby had a brain development problem called lissencephaly. Subsequent scans showed that wasn’t the case and what was wrong was basically unknown. As well as the other problem he also had a small jaw.

“When he was born on Monday his heart and kidneys were working fine but he was put straight on a ventilator. He has a cleft palate and his kidneys are shaped like a horseshoe because they had not separated.”

Mr Holt said that the day after he was born, at Newcastle’s Victoria Royal Infirmary, 5lb 2oz Jasper had to have surgery, which included reconstructing his lower abdomen.

He added they had been told it was likely a chromosome problem was responsible but Down’s syndrome has been ruled out.

Mr Holt continued: “They have been doing lots of tests and it could be years before we find out what chromosome has been affected.

“Doctors have said it could be that it is totally unique and have named it ‘Jasper Syndrome’.

“He came off the ventilator on Thursday and a scan that night showed he had cysts on his brain. He also had a bit of a setback on the same day and had to have a little bit of oxygen. Next week we will see the cleft palate team and he will have an MRI. We don’t know how long we’ll be here but as soon as he’s comfortable enough he will be moved back to Furness General.”

He said if the FGH maternity unit wasn’t there it would have made their nightmare even worse.

Mr Holt added: “They made such a difference. They explained everything to us and have been great in helping us understand what was going on.

“It was really refreshing to have such dedicated and compassionate staff to deal with. You can’t beat being at your local hospital.

“I would be pretty devastated if we lost the maternity unit. It would have added so much more stress if we had to keep travelling out of town and couldn’t just pop up to the hospital when we needed to. It would have made our nightmare so much worse. We can’t thank them enough for their care.”

Sascha Wells, head of midwifery for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust said: “We’re very pleased that Jeff and Gemma were happy with the service we provided and we will ensure we pass their thanks onto all who were involved in the care they received as a family.”

Naked KiteSurfing

Richard Branson suggests naked kitesurfing to premier
Branson well known for his 'brashness,' Christy Clark's office responds

Richard Branson has suggested B.C. Premier Christy Clark try kite-surfing with him, noting she should be aware of the 'dress code.' Richard Branson has suggested B.C. Premier Christy Clark try kite-surfing with him, noting she should be aware of the 'dress code.'

British billionaire Richard Branson has invited B.C. Premier Christy Clark to join him on a kitesurf ride — with the suggestion that she try it naked.

It appears Clark left a real impression on the founder of Virgin Group when he visited the province last week to announce a new airline service from Vancouver. Branson, who is a master of publicity, wrote on his blog that he asked the "delightful" Clark to kitesurf while riding on his back.

But he says he forgot to tell her about the dress code, and he even supplied a picture as an example.

The picture shows a fully-clothed Branson kitesurfing with a young, naked woman on his back.

A statement from the premier's office only says Branson "is well known for his brashness and ability to manipulate media coverage for his company."

Branson's last words to the B.C. premier: "The offer still stands Christy!"

Pub landlord Alastair Scott has found out the lingering illness he had was caused by an allergy to beer.

And as if it couldn’t get any worse, he makes a living as an ale taster.

The 49-year-old had been suffering from a constant cough and runny nose, but just put it down to man flu.

The Top Secret How To Use and Get Caviar Moisturizer Every Night

Donald Trump's 7-Year-Old Son, Barron, Uses Caviar Moisturizer Every Night

Melania Trump, model, businesswoman and wife of Donald Trump, doesn't cut corners when it comes to raising her son, Barron. When it comes to clothes, he dresses in suits like his dad. When it comes to skincare, he uses mom's caviar-enhanced skincare line.

You read that correctly. The 7-year-old Barron uses Melania's Caviar Complex C6 moisturizer every night after his bath.

"It smells very, very fresh," Melania, who launched the skincare line exclusively in Lord & Taylor this week, told ABC News. "I put it on him from head to toe. He likes it!"

When Melania says "caviar," she means it. It is a key active ingredient in her entire beauty line, the products of which run from $50 to $150. She imports the caviar from a cultured sturgeon farm in the South of France, where it is harvested at optimal ripeness to maintain the nutrients, according to a press release.

It might come as no surprise that the Slovenian beauty is eager to pamper her boy. Barron is her only son and Donald's youngest. She gave birth to him in 2006, one year after marrying Donald.

Melania has said being a mother is her top priority.

"I am a full time mom; that is my first job," she told Parenting magazine in September. "The most important job ever. I started my business when he started school. When he is in school I do my meetings, my sketches, and everything else. I cook him breakfast. Bring him to school. Pick him up. Prepare his lunch. I spend the afternoon with him."

But she also allows for some flexibility in her parenting philosophy. "I don’t push my thoughts or likes or dislikes. I want him to grow to be his own person. I think is important to give a child room to make mistakes in order to learn," she said. "Mistakes build wings so later in life they can fly and go on their own. Let them fall once in awhile ... Be their friend and parent as well. When they’re in trouble they will come to you first. Don’t try to change their opinion."

The Donald himself even has a list of tips on how to "raise kick ass kids". One of his pearls of parenting wisdom: Let them know they are exceptional, so exceptional results are expected.

How To Raising Puma In Apartment

Lithuanian woman Rasa Veliute shares home with three puma cubs abandoned by mother

Rasa Veliute holds a puma who lives in her apartment in Klaipeda, Lithuania. She took three cubs home four months ago when their mother refused to care for them.

A LITHUANIAN woman says she has been raising three pumas in her three-room apartment after fearing for their lives at the local zoo.

Rasa Veliute, a 23-year-old volunteer at the zoo in Klaipeda, a Baltic Sea port town, says she took the cubs home four months ago after their mother began neglecting them.

The pumas - also known as mountain lions or cougars - are named Kipsas, Gipse and Kinde. Veliute says they eat a lot of chicken and get along well with her East European shepherd dog.

There is no Lithuanian law barring keeping the animals at home, and the zoo did not object to Veliute's actions. But Veliute told reporters Friday that the pumas have grown fast and will likely return to the zoo this summer.

Barbie's Ass Makes Money

Does my bun look big on this?
Barbie earns cash balancing things on her ‘bum shelf’

Shelf-assured ... Barbie's rear makes a handy surface to rest food on
Confident ... modelling has won Barbie a following of more than 4,000 ‘fat admirers

BOOTY-OBSESSED Barbie Edwards has spent a fortune on food to get such a huge backside — but now her big butt is making big bucks.

The 42-year-old mum claims she has the world’s largest bottom, and says she has used her unique asset to make a whopping £18,000 in the past six months just by BALANCING things on her behind.

The colossal rear measures creating a “butt shelf” upon which Barbie can balance trays of food and drink — to the delight of her paying fans.

The bouncy blonde is delighted with her shape and is now hoping to persuade Guinness World Records to include a new category for world’s biggest shelf behind.

She said: “I used to hate my big hips and bum, but since I’ve been modelling it’s changed the way I feel about myself. My bum shelf has a career all of its own and I wouldn’t change it.”

As well as making her money, Barbie’s bottom — which currently has 4,000 online fans — also comes in handy with household chores.

The mother of three from Washington, USA, explains: “I often use my butt shelf to balance food on while I’m preparing family meals.

“It’s also great for balancing cleaning products on when I’m tidying the house or snacks when I’m lying on the sofa at night.”

Divorced Barbie, who also works as a social worker, first heard about the world of Big Beautiful Women (BBW) six months ago when she visited Las Vegas with a friend.

She says: “I was given a flyer for a BBW night at a club and we decided to go for a laugh.

“I had never heard of that world before. It was such an eye-opener — the party was full of big women and men who were their fans, known as ‘fat admirers’.

“While I was there I was approached by a model scout who suggested I’d make a great model because of my bottom and my Barbie-girl looks.

“At first I thought he was kidding. But he eventually persuaded me to pose for some photos.

“I decided to throw caution to the winds and have a go. I never thought it would make me money — let alone nearly 28,000 dollars!

“I receive hundreds of messages from men every day, requesting pictures of me in my underwear.

“There is no specific type of man who loves my bum — they range from farmers to business executives.

“They pay for pictures and some like me to balance things on my bum — often plates of doughnuts or pizzas to show how big it is.

“At first I found these requests strange, but now I love it because I know it’s making my fans happy.”

However, Barbie’s extraordinary figure does cause problems.

She admits that her humongous hips regularly get stuck in turnstiles.

On planes and trains Barbie requires two seats and she often gets bruises using public toilets because her bottom is so wide that it jams against toilet roll holders.

She said: “Often I cannot fit into dressing rooms in shops and at work I have a special chair to accommodate my bottom’s unique width and shelf.

“I constantly knock over displays in supermarkets when shopping.

“I am a wide load and sometimes it’s difficult to judge whether I can fit through certain spaces. When eating out I have to phone ahead to restaurants to ensure they have booth seating, because I can never have a normal chair.”

Barbie, who drives a minivan because cars are too small for her frame, was chubby as a child.

But she says her extreme pear-shaped body started to develop when she hit puberty.

“I was teased relentlessly at school for my size and lived in tent-like dresses. Looking like this was a daily battle as a teenager and I was very miserable. When I left school I weighed 300 pounds (21st 6lb) and half of that was in the butt region.”

After three pregnancies, Barbie now weighs more than 500 pounds (35st 10lb) — but is no longer bullied for it.

She says: “I am healthy and happy that finally my unusual figure is celebrated rather than criticised.

“I work very hard and I am helping my kids with some extra money from my modelling. I want to show other girls with big bottoms you can be sexy and successful. I’m like a giant Kim Kardashian.

“My bum is a beauty and despite once hating it, I’d never change it.”

BARBIE’S BUM-BOOSTING DIET Breakfast: Pancakes, bacon and syrup with cereal and toast.

Eat Noodles Everyday for 13 years

Teen's Strange Ramen Addiction

Ramen-style noodles, a staple in the pantry of broke college students, has been the mainstay of one teenager's diet for the past 13 years, according to an article in the New York Daily News.

Georgi Readman, 18, of the Isle of Wight, U.K., refuses to eat fruit and vegetables and exists solely on packaged noodle soup, a snack that often contains high amounts of fat, saturated fat, and sodium. One package typically boasts 400 calories and 20 grams of fat.

Readman, who is 5'3'' and 98 pounds, told the Daily News that she became hooked on the noodles when she was five-years-old and her mother still buys her packages by the dozens. She estimates eating 30 miles of noodles per year and the thought of eating anything else makes her sick.

“I hate the texture of fruit and vegetables," she said. “I can’t go to my friends' for dinner or go out for meals because I don’t want them to see me freak out if the side salad touches the stuff I eat. Mum goes to the supermarket and brings back as many packets as she can afford. I always fancy noodles and could easily eat two packets at once. I’ve even eaten them dry and uncooked before!”

Many children develop picky eating patterns after they turn one because their bodies naturally need less food and their taste buds change so they become more opinionated and selective about what they eat. Plus, at that age they're often on the go so it can be hard to get them to sit down for properly balanced meals. And although parents might give in to the demands of their children because it's easier than arguing about food, one recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that 78 percent of picky eating habits can be attributed to genetics (only 22 percent are caused by environmental factors).

Readman could not be reached for comment but according to her doctors, she is malnourished and has the health of an 80 year old.

"That sounds like an accurate assessment," says Lisa Kaufman, a pediatrician at Village Pediatrics who has not treated Readman. "A diet of instant noodles has likely wreaked incredible amounts of havoc on her organs. The body—especially one that's still developing—needs protein, minerals, and nutrients to grow; that's just basic common sense. Without it, this girl has probably suffered stunted growth and IQ, osteoporosis, heart and kidney damage, and high blood pressure. Her lifespan has likely been shortened as well."

Kaufman adds, "Kids would eat ice cream every day if they could but it's the parent's responsibility to broaden their palates, introducing various foods and textures to them."

At 18 years old, Readman's eating habits are so ingrained that it would likely take a major mental and physical overhaul to improve her health. "In order to get off the noodles, she may need hospitalization and an education in nutrition," says Kaufman.

Pink Batmobile

Google staff plays April Fool's car prank on co-founder Sergey Brin, turns his Tesla Model S into a pink Batmobile
Google staff surprised company co-founder Sergey Brin on April Fool's by turning his Tesla Model S into a bright pink Batmobile. The pranksters from the Google X project division, currently working on Google Glass, wrapped the car in pink vinyl to make sure the changes weren't permanent.

The pranksters used pink vinyl to wrap the car so the damage would not be permanent.

Holy April Fools, Batman!

Google staff surprised co-founder Sergey Brin by turning his electric Tesla Model S sedan into a bright pink Batmobile as part of a newly revealed April Fool's Day joke.

The staff at Google's 'X' project division, famous within the company for producing its most visionary products and ideas and currently responsible for the Google Glass project, decided to play a joke on their boss, and the company's co-founder Sergey Brin.

However, what made it special is that despite living in a virtual age, where software can be used to alter an image or a misleading story can easily be posted online, the prank, which involved seriously modifying a car, was very much old school and real world.

While Brin's back was turned, his co workers turned his Model S Tesla car into what can only be described as a pink Batmobile, complete with Bat symbol on the hood, massive rims (complete with Google Chrome logos in their centers), protruding rear bat wings and long, luscious eyelashes adorning the car's headlights.

Google X projects member Corey Tabaka posted a photo to his Google+ account not only of the car, but of Brin taking the joke in good humor and actually taking it out for a spin. The reason the pranksters chose the Batman motif is because the X projects department is thought of as the "bat cave," and the jokers were also quick to highlight that they used pink vinyl to wrap the car, so that none of the modifications would be permanent or difficult to reverse.

Joke From North Korea

Hackers attack North Korean news website

SEOUL (AFP) - Activist hackers appeared to have infiltrated North Korea's official news website and its accompanying Twitter and Flickr feeds, posting unflattering images of leader Kim Jong-Un.
The China-based website of Uriminzokkiri, which distributes news and propaganda from the North's state media, was inaccessible and its companion feeds attacked and defaced.
On Twitter, the Uriminzokkiri account's profile photo was changed to one of a couple dancing the Tango, and a series of tweets read "Hacked" and "Tango Down".
The male dancer was wearing a Guy Fawkes mask -- a trademark of the "Anonymous" hacktivist group.
The website's Flickr page showed a number of images, including one which simply read "We Are Anonymous" and a mock-up "Wanted" poster featuring Kim with a pig's nose and ears and a Mickey Mouse tattoo on his chest.
Uriminzokkiri is best known for posting propaganda videos excoriating the United States and including images like the White House framed in the crosshairs of a sniper's rifle sight.
Thursday's attack came amid soaring military tensions on the Korean peninsula with Pyongyang, Seoul and Washington engaged in a bout of high-stakes brinkmanship.
It also followed a major cyber attack that crashed the computer networks at South Korean TV broadcasters and banks last month and was widely blamed on North Korean hackers.

Queen Elizabeth II & Meryl Streep Dies!

Margaret Thatcher dies: Taiwan TV apologises for Queen mix-up

Television bosses in Taiwan have been forced to make an embarrassing apology after illustrating their Margaret Thatcher obituary with images of the Queen.

As the news of the death of Britain’s first female prime minister emerged on Monday, Taipei-based channel CTI TV rushed to inform its viewers.

But in their scramble to get the story out, the channel’s editors appear to have confused Baroness Thatcher with Queen Elizabeth II.

As the presenter discussed Lady Thatcher’s death at the age of 87, the Queen was pictured waving to crowds, receiving bouquets of flowers from flag-waving supporters and standing beside her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.

“Former British prime minister Thatcher passed away, the Iron Lady is missed,” read a caption accompanying the footage that remained on air for nearly one minute.

Meanwhile, an army-run television channel in Thailand also had to apologise after using a picture of the actress, Meryl Streep, to illustrate its report on the Iron Lady’s demise.

“We apologise for the mistake over the use of the photo during the report on Margaret Thatcher which caused misunderstanding. Our team will try harder and be more careful,” the channel reportedly said on its Facebook page.

A source at the channel told AFP: “The news anchor noticed the mistake and solved the problem by saying her story was made into a Hollywood movie played by Meryl Streep.”

Possessed By A Ghost named Nigel

Woman demands new council house after old home gets ‘possessed by a ghost named Nigel’

Stacey McGill and her daughter Chelsey at their ‘possessed’ home in Loughborough

A woman living in Leicestershire has demanded a new council house after claiming her current one is possessed by a ghost called Nigel.

A paranormal investigator said the spooky guest that was terrifying Stacey McGill in Loughborough was in his 30s and had learning disabilities.

The 29-year-old mother said the ghost was tormenting her family, which includes her 18-month-old daughter Chelsea and boyfriend Carl, 25, by constantly switching the lights on and off.

‘I noticed something was there straight away,’ she told the Sun.

‘The microwave started going on and off by itself, and one night we were woken at 3am by the sound of maintenance works. It’s so unnerving.’

She added ‘Nigel’ also left her feeling like she had spider webs on her skin.

East Midlands Housing Association, which rents Ms McGill her current home, added: ‘We have listened to Ms McGill’s concerns and will continue to offer our support and advice.’

"I called for a cab yesterday (April 4) at 3.20pm to get from Yishun to Compassvale and when I reached Compassvale, I realised I didn't bring my wallet.

"I had absolutely no money on me.

"Andrew (Comfort Delgro SH8729L) not only trusted that I would transfer the fare of $15 when I got home.

"He also gave me another $20 as I didn't have any money on me at all, not even my ez-link card.

"What he did really made my day. Without his help, I probably would have had to cab home to get my wallet and I would miss out on a work assignment.

"Such taxi drivers are a rare find especially when there are so many instances of passengers running off without paying their fares.

"Trust and kindness are traits which are sorely missing nowadays and it is heartening to know it still exists."

Andrej Pejic in Elle: fashion's love affair with a boy who looks like a girl

Does the success of a man as a womenswear model mean that the fashion industry is finally embracing difference?

Could it be that the fashion industry is becoming more diverse? Last week saw androgynous womenswear model Andrej Pejic grace the cover of a mainstream fashion magazine for the first time.

Pejic, according to the Serbian edition of Elle, is the ‘boy who shook the fashion world’ – a young man who, when dressed head to toe in John Paul Gaultier and strutting down a catwalk, or posing poutily from the glossy pages of a magazine, happens to look like an extraordinarily pretty girl. Indeed, Pejic embodies all the qualities model scouts look for – litheness, height, and something unique and extraordinary. In this case, it's long blonde hair, cut-glass cheekbones and come-to-bed eyes.

Yet Pejic is also clearly a man. No attempts are made to conceal his wide jaw and his Adam’s apple as he poses in women’s clothing, tiptoeing along the gender binary and flirting with either side. In an industry as homogenised as fashion, he has been seen as a breath of fresh air.

But others have questioned whether his success represents the scourge of female body fascism brought to its logical conclusion. Has fashion’s seeming rejection of female tits and arse meant that the only body now able to fit into the sample sizes isn’t a woman’s at all, but that of a (much less inconveniently lumpy) man? The problem with this line of argument, however, is that the correlation of mounds of doughy flesh with femininity is problematic, as we all know. Not all women have ‘curves’, after all.

Meanwhile, there are those who have argued that fashion’s preoccupation with the ‘un-feminine’ body shape is down to its being dominated by gay men who apparently want all women to look like little boys, a theory that has more than a whiff of homophobia about it and fatally ignores the huge participation of women within the industry. The message that we’re hearing is that the fashion industry says women’s bodies are always supposed to look like something else, perhaps anything else, other than ‘naturally female’. It’s a tempting conclusion - but the problems with its logic are glaringly inherent.

When you stand next to a fashion model for the first time, especially a ‘high fashion’ model, you become suddenly aware that you are in the presence of a very different kind of human being. More often than not, she’ll tower above you, Amazonian in stature, like an Alice with pocketfuls of empty ‘eat me’ wrappers. When you look closer, you’ll see that her skinny legs and arms are, rather than the result of months of starvation, usually part and parcel of her very specific body type: a body type that which is both unusually slim and statuesque, with hips and tits kept to a minimum. That’s not to say that some models don’t underfeed themselves, or that their working conditions aren’t often appalling or rife with pressure to do so (as we’ve stated in previous columns, the fashion industry has a lot to answer for) but merely that the ‘fash pack’ favours one particular body type, and one which is by its very nature uncommon amongst the general population.

It’s when there is great pressure exerted on that general population to believe a catwalk body is achievable that we start to see problems, and it’s only when you’re actually in the presence of that model (something most people don’t experience, ever) that you realise how utterly preposterous and definitely unachievable that body type is. And it is fashion’s worship of that one genre of figure that results in the skewed standardisation that damages so many young women. Never in history has so much been demanded of so many through the photography of so few.

Of course, the fashion industry will sometimes pay lip service to acceptable difference. Pejic is different in as much he is of the opposite sex than you’d expect, but he still ticks the same aesthetic boxes as any female fashion model. Occasionally, Vogue will put a black model on the cover, and that copy will (apparently) sell badly, and then they’ll stop for another year or so. Last week saw Italian Vogue put an Asian model on its cover for the first time, Chinese model Fei Fei Sun. She looks startlingly chic, and crucially, has not been made to look more Caucasian, a charge often levied at fashion magazines when they use non-white models or celebrities.

Sometimes, fashion will even embrace fat, as stylist Katie Grand did for Beth Ditto’s naked LOVE cover of 2009. Certainly we’re seeing different kinds of body, sometimes, on very special occasions. The week before last saw make-up brand MAC use a female bodybuilder to advertise their product, in a campaign entitled ‘strength’. As a brand, MAC has always been ahead of the curve, having given RuPaul a modelling contract, making him the first drag queen supermodel as far back as 1995.

Before his spectacular fall from grace, John Galliano’s habit of shocking the fashion world was already well established. His S/S 2005 couture show featured an array of so-called ‘freaks’ instead of standard-issue models – dwarves, child twins, fat women, old men, and a variety of others who are so often invisible in the world a la mode. The New York Times reported that some were shocked at the show’s ‘gross humanity’, while others laughed throughout - now, pop stars such as Lady GaGa make freakishness a selling point. Could it be that the rest of the fashion industry is finally catching up?

Well, yes and no. The success of models such as Charlotte Free, with her pink locks and her feminism and her hairy armpits, gives us hope. Meanwhile, last week’s ‘Body Issue’ of Grazia, in which size 8 model Daisy Lowe is breathlessly held up as courageous and atypical due to her breasts, demonstrate that there is still a long way to go.

Fashion will always have a place for the freaks, the misfits and the outcasts, and it will continue to fetishise them in a not altogether respectful or flattering way, along with perpetuating the unusual female body type which still dominates fashion imagery and which we continue to perceive as normal and attainable.

So long as fashion continues to do this, it may just about convince some of us of its inclusivity. But in reality, inclusivity means more than the occasional (and often snide) nod towards difference, and it’s hard to be optimistic.

In the audience at these catwalk shows and fashion exhibits sit rows and rows of diverse women, the norms who conform neither to one vision nor the other, and they rarely see their reality mirrored back at them. That reality exists only in the swimming pool changing room, or at the gym, or in the nation’s bathrooms – the only places where bodies that are uncompromisingly flesh which sags and wobbles lurk – here be monsters!

Elsewhere, these bodies are all too often airbrushed out. Fashion may occasionally be a freakshow, but according to them, the most monstrous thing of all is run-of-the-mill, non-aspirational, un-Photoshopped humanity. It just doesn’t sell clothes.

Dedication: From vampire-like teeth to pale skin and piercing red eyes, creative Bean Shanine, 32, dedicates up to eight hours a day bringing to life her zombie babies

An eccentric artist is making a living out of the dead - by creating incredibly spooky zombie dolls which are proving a hit around the world.

From vampire-like teeth to pale skin and piercing red eyes, creative Bean Shanine, 32, dedicates up to eight hours a day bringing to 'life' her zombie babies.

Reborn dolls are often used by mothers who cannot have children, but Ms Shanine insists she receives almost entirely positive comments from people on the internet about her creations.

Her dolls have become so popular that Sharon Osbourne, wife of rocker Ozzy Osbourne, was recently given one on a US chat show - with the former X Factor judge describing it as 'very very well made... but slightly disturbing'.

The mother-of-four, who lives in Washington, USA, made her first monster baby in 2010 as a gift for a friend who takes part in an annual zombie walk in Vancouver, Canada.

But she soon turned her new hobby into a business - The Twisted Bean Stalk Nursery - and sells the creepy creations for as much as $1,500 (£930) to collectors in the UK and all over the world.

She said: 'Before I gave it to my friend I put it on eBay as a test just to see what would happen with a ridiculously high price to make sure it wouldn't sell.

Feedback: The creator insists she receives almost entirely positive comments from people on the internet

'Loads of people started asking when I would make another one as it was so good. I don't think anyone else was really making Reborn zombies and vampires at the time.

'I don't know exactly why I make zombies and vampires because I'm not a dark person at all. They're just different, there wasn't any at the time and the feedback was awesome.

'I have made more than 50 Reborn dolls and have sold every single one of them I have ever listed.

The thing which sets me aside from artists who make monster babies is that mine are genuine Reborn dolls.

'They are realistic and very tastefully done - no blood or guts - just real babies with fangs and glowing eyes. Yes they are creepy but they're really cute at the same time.

'These are expensive to make. People think the $650 starting price is high but it costs hundreds for supplies and big collectors will pay over $1500 if they really want one.

'It's like buying a painting from one of your favourite artists - they are all one of a kind. They are not toys and not suitable for young children to play with either.

'I would say a lot of work goes into making a doll look life-like and real than goes into making the dolls look scary.

'Each doll needs about 30 layers of paint and then you have to bake the doll after every single layer.

'After they are painted, you have to assemble them, add any finishing touches and root hair. If the hair is rooted that takes about eight hours or painting the hair takes about six.

'A lot of time and care goes into each one of my little monster creations.'

And even her own children don't find the bizarre playthings scary.

She added: 'People often ask me how my kids are around the dolls and what they think of them but with a mum who has pink hair and tattoos they can handle some dolls.

'My four-year-old thinks they're cool - most kids these days think zombies are awesome.

'I like to keep them tastefully done, no blood or guts or anything gross like that.

'I love doing what I do and hope people enjoy them just as much as I enjoy spending time making them.'
