Woman Kills Man By Squeezing His Testicles
The man on the graphic photo below is a 42-year-old shop owner in the Meilan District of Haikou City, in Hainan, that big island south of mainland China. He is dead. A 41-year-old woman killed him. By squeezing his testicles.
Update: Yes, you can die from extreme testicular pain. Here's the scientific explanation, by urologist and San Diego Sexual Medicine's director Dr. Irwin Goldstein.
According to witnesses talking to China News 24, the woman was riding a scooter and tried to park it in front of the man's shop. She was going to pick up her son, who attends the elementary school in that neighborhood.
The man went out of the shop and told her that she couldn't park her scooter there. She protested and a the shouting match started. After a while they started to fight physically. The woman called her husband and brother, who came to the scene. But things got a lot worse than just a few smacks here and there: the woman grabbed the man's testicles and squeezed them so hard and long that the man shutdown. He collapsed on the ground out of the pain and, worse, he was dead. Yes, people. dead by ballsqueeze.
The paramedics tried to revive him on the spot to no avail. He was rushed to the hospitals, but doctors couldn't do anything for him. I really want to know what the death certificate says. And I really want to know how the hell one can die from ballsqueezing.

The Top Secrets How To Slim Down Forever
Dead student's family call for clampdown on slimming drug
Sarah Houston, 23, died after taking banned dinitrophenol (DNP), which she ordered online, alongside antidepressants

A coroner and the family of a medical student suffering from bulimia who died after taking a banned weight-loss drug bought online have called for a change in the law to further tighten the distribution of the substance, which has been blamed for other deaths.
Dr Graham Mould, a forensic toxicologist, told an inquest into the death of Sarah Houston, 23, that a combination of dinitrophenol (DNP), which is banned from human consumption but is used as a chemical pesticide, and antidepressants may have been fatal.
DNP, which was first used to treat obesity in the 1930s but was banned as a food substance due to its dangerous side effects, continues to be used as a slimming aid by bodybuilders around the world. It was linked to 62 deaths in a study published last year in the Journal of Medical Toxicity.
The University of Leeds medical student, who comes from a family of doctors, is believed to have been taking the drug secretly alongside a prescribed antidepressant Fluoxetine. Houston was found dead in her bedroom by a flatmate.
The inquest in Wakefield heard she had complained of feeling hot and unwell and had been breathing heavily on the evening before she died in September last year.
Mould said there was no evidence of an overdose. "We don't know how long Sarah had been taking DNP but it may have accumulated in her system," he said. "It increases the body's metabolic rate. The side effects can be overheating and breathlessness caused by an increased heart rate and this seems to be consistent with how Sarah was feeling that evening.
"The side effects of DNP were clearly present and it's possible that Fluoxetine may have exacerbated the affect of DNP. At a very high dose, Fluoxetine can have a similar affect to DNP and so one can speculate that the two drugs together might have speeded up the affect."
Mould pointed out that the Food Standards Agency had previously issued a report warning the public not to take DNP.
Coroner David Hinchliff said: "The only way to combat the use of DNP is to bring to the attention of the public how dangerous a substance it is.
"This is not a one-off case and it needs bringing to the public's attention."
Outside court, Houston's family said she was not depressed at the time she died and her health had improved leading up to her death. In a statement, they said that it was incomprehensible that DNP could be purchased over the internet and called on the government to take steps to ensure that no other family suffered in the same way in future.
"It's going to be a slow process, but hopefully approaching the Home Office to begin with will be the right step and hopefully it will be made illegal," said Sarah's father, Geoff Houston. "For those who are selling it, if you have any ounce of decency you must stop."
The coroner recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.

The World's Best Doctor - Makes A Daughter Dies After Misdiagnosed Meningitis as Flu
Girl, 3, dies after GP mistakes meningitis symptoms for flu
Chloe Cain had vomited for days and was completely unable to walk
But GP said she was suffering with flu and prescribed painkillers
The following night she suffered a seizure and was rushed to hospital
Tests revealed she was suffering with cryptococcal meningitis
A week later her life support machine was switched off and she died
Tara is now desperate to raise awareness of the condition as her daughter did not show any of the normal symptoms of meningitis such as a rash or stiff neck.
Tara Cain is devastated after her daughter Chloe's symptoms were mistaken for a bout of flu and ultimately cost her life
Three-year-old Chloe loved dancing, playing in the park and going to nursery before she tragically died
A mother has told how her three-year-old daughter died from meningitis after a GP misdiagnosed the killer disease as flu.
Brave Chloe Cain had been vomiting for days and had been completely unable to walk when her mother Tara, 29, rushed her to the doctor on March 24.
After spending 20 minutes with the child, Tara claims the GP concluded Chloe just had a bug and prescribed pain killers.
But the following night the Chloe suffered a massive seizure at home and was taken by ambulance to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.
After a series of tests carried out over the following two days, Tara was given the crushing news that Chloe had cryptococcal meningitis.
Cryptococcal meningitis is caused by a fungus found in soil all over the world. It tends to affect those with a weakened immune system. Unlike bacterial meningitis, this form of meningitis comes on more slowly, over the course of a few days to weeks.
Symptoms include fever, hallucinations, headache, nausea and vomiting, sensitivity to light and a stiff neck. Chloe did not suffer the tell-tale stiff neck or rash associated with the infection.
Just one week later on April 4 her life support machine was switched off - after the killer bug took grip of the youngster's tiny body.
Today furious Tara, from Nottingham, slammed the GP who wrongly diagnosed her daughter.
She said: ‘I am fuming at the way they shrugged off what I was saying and said it was flu.
‘They just sent me on my way with Ibuprofen and paracetamol.
‘If they had done their jobs correctly then it might've been sorted out by tackling it sooner. They just gave me no support whatsoever.
‘They wanted to take a urine sample to get to the bottom of it, but because she kept throwing up the water they just stopped trying.
‘When she was finally taken in she was attached to a ventilator to help her breathe and they diagnosed her with meningitis. I was heartbroken.
Tara Cain is desperate to raise awareness about the disease that killed her daughter
Tara Cain is desperate to raise awareness about the disease that killed her daughter
‘I was begging for her to get better. It was killing me. I really was 50;50 as to whether she was going to live or not.
‘It was always my worst fear that she would get meningitis as my cousin's baby had it and it took him a long time to recover.
‘So I always prayed this wouldn't happen to my daughter.’
She will be doing a parachute jump next month to raise money for The Meningitis Trust.
Chloe will have a small funeral with only a few friends and family, which will be held next Wednesday.
Paying tribute to her daughter, Tara added: ‘She loved Tinkerbell and Fireman Sam, and loved dancing and playing down the park.
‘My fondest memory of her was when she would wake up at 3am asking to go to nursery.
‘Sometimes I would be downstairs in the early hours of the morning unable to sleep and Chloe would come bouncing down the stairs asking to go to nursery.
‘She just loved going there. Some kids would kick and scream when they were dropped off at school, but not Chloe, she would have lived there if she could.’

The Dead Body in The Van Mystery
NHS slammed as mechanics fixing mortuary van discover dead body in the back
"What were the drivers doing? Surely they must have known that they weren't just on a day out and that they actually had a body in the back of the van."
The patient died at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary
An inquiry is underway after an NHS van arrived at a garage for repairs - with a body in the back.
Horrified mechanics discovered the corpse as the specialist mortuary vehicle was taken in for a broken tail light.
An NHS employee has been suspended and health chiefs have apologised to the distressed family of the deceased.
Patients' campaigner Margaret Watt said the body blunder was 'absolutely horrendous'.
She stormed: "Who would have ever thought that someone's body could just be left in the back of a van? It's disgraceful.
"What were the drivers doing? Surely they must have known that they weren't just on a day out and that they actually had a body in the back of the van.
"The corpse could have been there for days if the mechanics hadn't found it.
"This is totally unacceptable and it should never have happened."
The van belonged to NHS Grampian and was used to transport bodies to the city mortuary in Aberdeen.
The body was found on Wednesday when it arrived at the AM Phillip garage in the city.
Mrs. Watts, of the Scottish Patients Association, added: "My heart goes out to the family and a simple apology from NHS Grampian isn't enough.
"They need to go and face up to the family and someone's head should roll for this and I don't care who it is."
NHS Grampian said: "This is a very serious incident and we are dealing with it as a matter of urgency.
"We have been in touch with the family of the deceased person and have apologised unreservedly for the distress that this incident has caused them.
"We have also been in touch with the garage and have apologised for the distress that may have been caused to their staff.
"We have very strict processes in place to ensure that we deal sensitively and respectfully with deceased patients. Clearly these did not work on this occasion.
"We have taken immediate action to commission an independent investigation to understand what has gone wrong.
"Pending this investigation a member of staff has been suspended.
"We are deeply sorry for this regrettable incident and we are absolutely committed to taking whatever action is required to ensure that this situation can never happen again".
The patient died at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary earlier this week.
NHS Grampian refused to say whether the deceased was an adult or a child.
Lewis Macdonald, the Member of the Scottish Parliament for North East Scotland, said: "This incident is extraordinary and unacceptable.
"It is bound to cause concern and NHS Grampian are looking into it which is the right thing to do.
Staff at the garage refused to comment.

Live Fast Die Younger
Live fast, die younger: Actors, singers and sportsman 'die seven and a half years before other high achievers'
Analysis of successful people found those in the public eye died younger
Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and more did not realise their potential
Young people considering chasing fame 'may face early death'
Stars such as Kurt Cobain, formerly of hit grunge band Nirvana, are more likely to die young, according to new research
Elvis Presley died in 1977, grossly overweight and addicted to drugs. In his prime he was the biggest music star the world had ever seen
Too soon: Best-selling novelist Ernest Hemingway was just 61 when he killed himself
Waste: American rocker and musical pioneer Jimi Hendrix was just 27 when he died, apparently from an overdose. His career in the musical mainstream lasted just four years
Fame really does have a price, research shows.
An analysis of the lives and deaths of almost 1,000 successful people found that pop stars, sportsmen and actors were more likely to die young.
The price of fame equated to up to seven and a half years of life, with military top brass living on average almost eight years longer than sports stars, singers and other performers, a medical journal reports.
The idea that musicians die young has long been a source of fascination, with the deaths of the likes of Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison still fodder for books and films decades later.
Using information from New York Times obituaries, the Australian researchers proved the trio to be far from from the exception to the rule.
They took obituaries published between 2009 and 2011 and pulled out information such as age of death, cause of death and occupation.
It was assumed that those deemed worthy of an obituary in the newspaper had had a successful career.
The analysis showed that performers, including actors and singers, died the youngest.
Their average age of death was 77 years and one month. In contrast, military personal were the longest lived, clocking up 84 years and 8 months, on average.
Sportspeople also fared badly, dying on average at the age of 77 years and 5 months. Writers and other ‘creatives’ weren’t far behind, with an average lifespan of 78 and a half.
In contrast, businesspeople and politicians tended to join army-types in living in to their 80, the article in QJM: An International Journal of Medicine reports.
Early deaths were linked to accidents and infections, including HIV and cancer.
Lung cancer deaths, which the researchers said were an indication of long-term smoking, were most common in those whose career was performance-based.
The study’s authors said that young people considering chasing fame may face the choice of fulfilling their career potential or living longer.
They added that while the results don’t prove anything, they raise some interesting possibilities, from pop stars indulging too much while famous, to them self-medicating afterwards.
Professor Richard Epstein, of St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, said: ‘First, if it is true that successful performers and sports players tend to enjoy shorter lives, does this imply that fame at younger ages predisposes to poor health behaviours in later life after success has faded?
‘Or that psychological and family pressures favouring unusually high public achievement lead to self-destructive tendencies throughout life?
‘Or that risk-taking personality traits maximise one’s chances of success, with the use of cigarettes, alcohol or illicit drugs improving one’s performance output in the short term?
‘Any of these hypotheses could be viewed as a health warning to young people aspiring to become stars.’
Another recent analysis of rock and pop stars found that many of those who died young had been abused when young.
The British researchers said that the trappings of a rock and roll lifestyle may be especially attractive to those who have had an unhappy childhood.

Recycle Cremated Metal Body Parts
OrthoMetals recycle cremated metal body parts for road signs
METAL body parts from the dead are being recycled into road signs, car parts and aircraft engines.
Steel hips, plates and screws used in legs and skulls are collected after cremation and sold on - with money raised going to charity.
Even metal plates from false teeth and old fillings are recovered and re-used, together with metal fittings on coffins, Mail Online reported.
High-value metals that survive the 1000-degree furnace are sold for use in the automobile and aeronautical industries.
These include cobalt and titanium, which are found in some implants and dental work, with the former used in aircraft engines.
Other, less-valuable metals are smelted down and sold for more general use - including road signs, motorway barriers and lamp posts.
Money made is donated to charity and almost £1 million ($1.5 million) has been raised for good causes since the project began in Britain in 2004.
The Dutch company behind the recycling says around half Britain’s 260 crematoriums have signed up to the scheme, which is generating 75 tons of metal a year.
Before cremations, relatives are asked if they want to keep metal parts of loved ones. The vast majority say they have no need for them and sign a consent form agreeing to the recycling.
When the cremation is over the ashes and other remaining items go into a compartment in the cremator and then into a special cremulator machine which separates any metal from remaining pieces of bone. The metal is then loaded into large bins and taken away. At those crematoriums not signed up to the scheme, metal body parts are buried in the grounds, but new legislation means this will no longer be possible.
Ruud Verberne, owner of OrthoMetals, the Dutch company behind the recycling, said: "Metals reclaimed from cremations are being increasingly re-used. High-value metals such as cobalt go into the aircraft or automotive industries.
"Others are sold to smelters and foundries and it is possible that they end up as roadsigns or motorway barriers - there’s no way of knowing.
"What is important is that the metals are being recycled, and this is a growing business both in Britain and elsewhere in Europe."
One of the crematoriums in the scheme, at Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, says it fills around one large bin a month with the unwanted metal body parts.
The recycling schemes are governed by strict criteria set down by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management.

Fake Funeral Service
Fake funeral service proving popular after student holds her own false ceremony
Student Zeng Jia (in coffin) staged her own funeral
Following the revelation a Chinese student staged her own funeral so she could ‘enjoy’ the day, it has emerged the fake ceremony has also proved popular with other people from the country.
When Zeng Jia held her own wake, despite the fact she was still alive, many thought it was morbid and self-obsessed but it now turns out it wasn’t an unusual occurrence.
In March, 24 people held false funerals at the Shimenfeng Celebrity Culture Park in Wuhan and the roaring trade can be put down to trainee undertaker Zeng, who came up with the idea.
‘The service has two parts – a 20-minute memorial service and a 15-20 minute “life-death experience”,’ she said.
At first, employees at the cemetery were not convinced but after the student explained the service further they came around to the idea.
The mortuary’s designer Zhang Bei added: ‘It was the first time we ever offered this kind of service.
‘We were really surprised but found [the concept] new and interesting.’

At first, employees at the cemetery were not convinced but after the student explained the service further they came around to the idea.
The mortuary’s designer Zhang Bei added: ‘It was the first time we ever offered this kind of service.
‘We were really surprised but found [the concept] new and interesting.’

The Top Secret How To Do Sexual Battery
Audrie Pott Sexual Battery Suspects Arrested: 3 Teens Charged In Attack Documented With Cellphone Photos
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Eight days after allegedly being sexually battered while passed out at a party, and then humiliated by online photos of the assault, 15-year-old Audrie Pott posted on Facebook that her life was ruined, "worst day ever," and hanged herself.
For the next eight months, her family struggled to figure out what happened to their soccer loving, artistic, horse crazy daughter, whose gentle smile, long dark hair and shining eyes did not bely a struggling soul.
And then on Thursday, seven months after the tragedy, a Northern California sheriff's office arrested three 16-year-old boys on charges of sexual battery.
"The family has been trying to understand why their loving daughter would have taken her life at such a young age and to make sure that those responsible would be held accountable," said family attorney Robert Allard.
"After an extensive investigation that we have conducted on behalf of the family, there is no doubt in our minds that the victim, then only 15 years old, was savagely assaulted by her fellow high school students while she lay on a bed completely unconscious."
Allard said students used cell phones to share photos of the attack, and that the images went viral.
Santa Clara County Sheriff's Lt. Jose Cardoza said it arrested two of the teens at Saratoga High School and the third, a former Saratoga High student, at Christopher High School in Gilroy on Thursday. The names of the suspects were not released because they are minors.
Cardoza said the suspects were booked into juvenile hall and face two felonies and one misdemeanor each, all related to sexual battery that allegedly occurred at a Saratoga house party.
The lieutenant said the arrests were the result of information gathered by his agency's Saratoga High School resource officers. He said the investigation is ongoing, and Los Gatos police also continue looking into the girl's September suicide.
The Associated Press does not, as a rule, identify victims of sexual assault. But in this case, Pott's family wanted her name and case known, Allard said. The family also provided a photo to the AP.
The girl's family members did not comment and have requested privacy until a planned news conference Tuesday. Her father and step-mother Lawrence and Lisa Pott, along with her mother Sheila Pott, have started the Audrie Pott Foundation (audriepottfoundation.com) to provide music and art scholarships and offer youth counseling and support.
The foundation website alludes to the teen's struggles, but until now neither law enforcement, school officials nor family have discussed the sexual battery.
"She was compassionate about life, her friends, her family, and would never do anything to harm anyone," the site says. "She was in the process of developing the ability to cope with the cruelty of this world but had not quite figured it all out.
"Ultimately, she had not yet acquired the antibiotics to deal with the challenges present for teens in today's society."
On the day Pott died, Saratoga High School principal Paul Robinson announced her death, stunning classmates. Two days later other students and staff wore her favorite color, teal, in her honor.
Robinson wasn't immediately available for comment Thursday.
The Pott family is not alone.
In Canada on Thursday, authorities said they are looking further into the case of a teenage girl who hanged herself Sunday after an alleged rape and months of bullying. A photo said to be of the 2011 assault on 17-year-old Rehtaeh Parsons was shared online.
No charges initially were filed against four teenage boys being investigated. But after an outcry, Nova Scotia's justice minister appointed four government departments to look into Parsons' case.

Commits Suicide After Being Bullied by Peers
Rehtaeh Parsons Investigation Reopened: New Information In Alleged Rape, Bullying Case
TORONTO -- Authorities are reopening the case of a teen who hanged herself after she was allegedly raped and bullied for months, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Friday.
The police force's Nova Scotia office said it had received new and credible information in the case of 17-year-old Rehtaeh Parsons, whose family said she was photographed while being sexually assaulted in 2011 and bullied after the photo went viral online.
Her death on Sunday has been compared to similar cases in the United States, including a 15-year-old California girl who killed herself after her family says she was sexually assaulted by friends and a photo surfaced online.
Police had concluded there were no grounds to charge anyone in the Canadian case after an initial yearlong investigation. But the RCMP in Halifax now says a person who provided new information is willing to verify who the suspects are and cooperate with investigators, who have come under public criticism for their handling of the case.
RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae said he could not provide any details about who the source is or what the new information is. He would not say whether they were a witness. He said it's too early to speculate if there will be charges.
"We're certainly encouraged by this," he said.
MacRae said Parson's family had been informed, and they "welcome the re-opening of the file."
The Nova Scotia government came under criticism after Justice Minister Ross Landry initially ruled out the possibility of reviewing how the RCMP handled allegations that Parsons was sexually assaulted.
Landry changed course this week, saying he had asked senior officials for options to review how the Mounties and the Public Prosecution Service concluded they could not file charges.
A group reported to be the cyber-activist hackers Anonymous released a statement Friday saying it has seen "several public statements" from one of the alleged rapists acknowledging that he had sex with Parsons while she was intoxicated and that she threw up during the assault. The group had earlier vowed to release the names of four males investigated in the alleged sexual assault if police did not reopen its investigation.
A funeral service for Parsons is scheduled for Saturday.

Queen Elizabeth II & Meryl Streep Dies!
Margaret Thatcher dies: Taiwan TV apologises for Queen mix-up
Television bosses in Taiwan have been forced to make an embarrassing apology after illustrating their Margaret Thatcher obituary with images of the Queen.
As the news of the death of Britain’s first female prime minister emerged on Monday, Taipei-based channel CTI TV rushed to inform its viewers.
But in their scramble to get the story out, the channel’s editors appear to have confused Baroness Thatcher with Queen Elizabeth II.
As the presenter discussed Lady Thatcher’s death at the age of 87, the Queen was pictured waving to crowds, receiving bouquets of flowers from flag-waving supporters and standing beside her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.
“Former British prime minister Thatcher passed away, the Iron Lady is missed,” read a caption accompanying the footage that remained on air for nearly one minute.
Meanwhile, an army-run television channel in Thailand also had to apologise after using a picture of the actress, Meryl Streep, to illustrate its report on the Iron Lady’s demise.
“We apologise for the mistake over the use of the photo during the report on Margaret Thatcher which caused misunderstanding. Our team will try harder and be more careful,” the channel reportedly said on its Facebook page.
A source at the channel told AFP: “The news anchor noticed the mistake and solved the problem by saying her story was made into a Hollywood movie played by Meryl Streep.”

Dead Girl Photo Mystery
Outrage over Hangzhou police's cartoon murder appeal
POLICE in Hangzhou are offering up to 20,000 yuan (US$3,218) to anyone who can solve the "hidden clue" of three playing cards found near a murder victim.
But the online post has been condemned as disrespectful to the victim. A picture of her dead body had been posted online together with an image of popular Japanese cartoon character Detective Conan.
While thousands of netizens speculated about what the king of spades, jack of diamonds and five of spades might mean, many others accused police of a publicity stunt.
Police said the 25-year-old woman, 1.58 meters tall, was found dead in greenery in Hangzhou on March 15. They said they had found nothing that would identify her but were puzzled by the three playing cards left beside the body.
In a microblog post published by Hangzhou police officer Hu Bing, netizens were offered a reward if they could solve the puzzle or provide clues to the case.
The post used the image of Detective Conan, quoting the character saying: "Case closed. One truth prevails."
In one picture, a photo of the dead woman's face is next to the cartoon character who is saying: "Do you know her? If so, tell me. I must bring her justice."
The post has been forwarded more than 18,000 times since it was published on Saturday.
"If the woman carried the cards, she might be sending a message to help police catch the murderer. But if the cards were thrown by the murderer, he or she might be taunting the police," was one online comment.
"Are the three cards meaning 'save me quickly'?" asked a Hangzhou resident surnamed Zhou.
In Chinese, "J" and "K" are the first letters in pinyin for "save" and "quickly." While on the Internet, many netizens use the number "five" to mean "me" as the two words sound similar in Chinese.
Many people said they felt very uncomfortable about the dead woman's photo being published alongside the cartoon image.
"Let's set aside the copyright problem of directly using the image of the cartoon character. Firstly, shouldn't death and the murder case be very serious topics?" asked microblogger Hecaitou.
"The way that the police put the corpse photo next to the cartoon character seems like entertaining the public with the murder case," he said.
Hu, the police officer who published the post, said that he was trying all the ways he knew to find clues that could help catch the woman's killer.

Warning ! Man Dies After Teeth Operation
Man dies after wisdom teeth operation
San Diego, CA — A San Diego entrepreneur died after a routine dental procedure in Temecula, his family said Monday.
Marek Lapinski, 25, died on March 21 when he underwent a procedure to extract two wisdom teeth.
Lapinski was the vice president and part owner of San Diego-based Tactical 3D Dimensions, company that develops software and hardware for night vision devices. Marek’s bright future was cut short after he went to see Dr. Steven Paul, an oral surgeon in Temecula, for wisdom teeth surgery.
Natalie Lapinski told Fox 5 that her brother had been nervous about the surgery in the first place.
“He was so scared to get this done,” she said. “That morning, he texted me and said ‘I’m going in. I’ll call you when I’m out.’ I never heard from him again.”
Marek’s family provided Fox 5 with his medical records. The ambulance report by American Medical Response showed Marek was undergoing surgery when he began to cough.
“When he coughed they administered propofol and that’s when he went into cardiac arrest,” his mother, April Lapinski, said.
He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he died. The ambulance report also noted a piece of gauze was found in Marek’s airway.
“I was told by the hospital they weren’t sure if this was all caused from him choking on a piece of gauze,” she said. “Somebody was not paying attention at some point.”
Natalie Lapinski, who is a nurse, said in examining Marek’s medical records, she found her brother was given at least six different sedatives by the surgeon.
Lapinski
“In talking to the nurse at the hospital, from what they told me, he was given way too much anesthesia,” his sister said.
“The pulmonary doctor at the hospital told me it looked like an overdose to him,” said April Lapinski. “He had no health issues we were aware of. This was very strange and unexpected.”
Natalie Lapinski said in addition to the sedatives, she questions if her brother was properly monitored.
Medical records show instruments measured of Marek’s oxygen saturation levels every five minutes. For the first 20 minutes of surgery, levels stayed at 99 percent. At 25 minutes, there was no register. At the last entry registered at 43 percent.
wisdom teeth death
“He may have been without oxygen for 10 minutes,” his sister said. “After a couple of minutes with no oxygen to your brain you just basically don’t have one anymore. Those are just the facts.”
April Lapinski said Dr. Paul came to the hospital, but had no answers as to what happened.
Fox 5 visited the offices of Dr. Paul on Monday. We were told the doctor was in surgery and he would return our visit with a phone call. The doctor never called.
The official cause of Marek’s death is pending an autopsy. The Lapinski family said they plan to take legal action.
“This has just been our nightmare,” his mother said. “My family is having a really hard time with this.”

Pete Postlethwaite (1946-2011)
The death of Pete Postlethwaite yesterday at 64 of cancer will undoubtedly be felt at the movies. He's been a regular key ensemble player for a solid two decades now. 2010 was another big year for him: He played the corpse in Inception -- the one causing all those daddy issues -- and he also appeared in Clash of the Titans. One more film is coming in 2011 (the British comedy Killing Bono) but for many moviegoers his last showcase on the screen will be as the flower shop owner in Ben Affleck's The Town (pictured left). The starry cast of that movie, Postlethwaite included, won the NBR Best Ensemble prize and a BFCA Ensemble nomination.
His odd but memorable features probably insured that he'd play his fare share of criminals. But despite his recent bloody role in The Town, Postlethwaite being the thorns in the rose bush, I personally associate him with more noble turns. I first became aware of Who He Was when he was Oscar nominated as the title character in the Daniel Day-Lewis drama In the Name of the Father (1993) though I then realized I had already enjoyed him in Alien3 and Hamlet (the one with Mel Gibson); it's hard to forget that face. I was so in love with Baz Luhrmann's dizzyingly erratic Romeo + Juliet (1996) that Father Laurence, who sets all the fake death in motion to unfortunately disastrous effect, is still my favorite of his roles.
Other key roles include: Amistad, The Usual Suspects and Brassed Off. What's your favorite Postlethwaite performance or movie?

Blake Edwards (RIP)
![]() |
| Mrs & Mrs Blake Edwards (1974) |
What was less often noted is that he was often responsible for shining a flattering light on actresses, no matter your feelings about him getting Julie out of her clothing. His late career efforts in this realm (Ellen Barkin in Switch and Kim Basinger in Blind Date) weren't as magical as his earlier work but he had a hand in big moments in the careers of Natalie Wood and Audrey Hepburn and was absolutely crucial to Julie Andrews career.

| Blake and Natalie Wood in 1965 |
- Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) the most universally beloved Audrey Hepburn movie.
- The Pink Panther (1963) though any in the series will do. My favorite as a wee toddler was the one where Sellers is wearing a facial disguise that melts and his nose starts dripping. Anyone remember which in the series that was?
- The Great Race (1965) Check out how jaw droppingly gorgeous Natalie Wood is in this all-star comedy. Some consider it the peak of her beauty.
- "10" (1979) A massive hit when it appeared making Bo Derek and Dudley Moore incredibly famous. Julie Andrews co-stars.
- Victor/Victoria (1982)-You know this one already. Watch it again. Isn't it one of the most rewatchable films ever?
- And maybe end with one of his other collaborations with wife Julie Andrews. He directed her frequently. I didn't personally like their last film together That's Life (1986) but you could try Darling Lili (1970) a war film where Julie sings and is paired with Rock Hudson or The Tamarind Seed (1974) where Julie is romanced by Omar Shariff or their infamous showbiz satire S.O.B. (1981). Though moviegoers who liked Julie Andrews abso-squeaky clean sometimes resented her husband for his playful and frisky remolding of his wife's image whether that was striptease musical numbers or gender bending (clips from Darling Lili and Victor/Victoria follow), Julie herself obviously enjoyed it.

| Julie Andrews in S.O.B. (1981) |
As is true with most comedically gifted filmmakers, Edwards had to wait for an honorary Oscar late in life rather than win one in competition. He was only nominated once, for the screenplay to the wonderful gender-bending farce Victor/Victoria (1982) which happens to be the last musical hurrah of Julie Andrews. Along with Breakfast at Tiffany's it will undoubtedly live forever.
A dream maker and heart taker, indeed.

Two Goodbyes: Leslie and Irvin.
Two sad farewells to octogenarians of cinematic note, director Irvin Kershner and actor Leslie Nielsen.
I will forever appreciate Irvin Kershner (1923-2010), who died today, for making the best of the Star Wars films The Empire Strikes Back (1980). Yes, long before George Lucas ruined his own classic franchise, he once entrusted the directing of them (at least to a certain degree) to others. I haven't yet read many obits, but I'm hoping that some of them will recognize that it's hardly his only contribution to the movies; Star Wars has a way of gobbling up the internet oxygen, doesn't it? Though Kershner's filmography isn't exactly robust, other notable films include the thriller The Eyes of Laura Mars (1978), the last (unofficial) James Bond film with Sean Connery Never Say Never Again (1983) and the underseen but by most accounts praiseworthy Barbra Streisand film Up the Sandbox (1972).
Here's a fond farewell from a journalist who met him in 1978.
Leslie Nielsen (1926-2010) passed away yesterday in his sleep at the age of 84 after battling pneumonia. Confession: I've never seen the Naked Gun films. That's an odd thing to lead with when saying goodbye to the hilarious Leslie Nielsen but my point is this: his late career work was so often quoted that you felt like you'd seen it -- or at least heard those deadpan line readings -- from how deeply it permeated pop culture.
Like most everyone who lived through the Eighties I loved Airplane! (1980) and watched it god knows how many times with friends. Other key films include Forbidden Planet (1956), The Poseidon Adventure (1972) but in his last quarter century on the screen, he was leading parodic movies like the Naked Gun series and Mel Brooks Dracula: Dead and Loving It () or making appearances in other comic franchises like the Scary Movie films. I love imaginary through-lines in careers so I chuckle at the way he's introduced in the Forbidden Planet trailer and especially that "I didn't bring my bathing suit." / "What's a bathing suit?" exchange.
Since Anne Francis doesn't know what a bathing suit is, we undoubtedly know how she'd answer Airplane's immortal "Have you ever seen a grown man naked?" line. Seriously. Though that famous quote doesn't belong to Nielsen, anything that reminds you of Airplane! will surely remind you of Leslie Nielsen. Say it with me now

Say it with me now
"Surely you can't be serious."*
"I am serious. And don't call me Shirley."

RIP Dino De Laurentiis
.
JA from MNPP here. When I think of the name Dino De Laurentiis my mind instantly flashes to a bunch of much beloved cheese-fests from the 70s and 80s - Barbarella, the two Conan movies, Flash Gordon. But the man did it all, from Nights of Cabiria to Army of Darkness.
I don't know anything about his personal life but he's one of those legendary movie-men whose names become as big as the very big movies that they make. He won the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 2001, on top of a statue for La strada in 1957. He was 91 years old.

Jill Clayburgh (1944-2010)
Two time Oscar nominated actress Jill Clayburgh died yesterday after a long long struggle with leukemia. She was 66 years old.
Younger moviegoers may remember her as the rundown matriarch of that chaotic impossibly neurotic brood in Running With Scissors (2006) or the well heeled matriarch in television's Dirty Sexy Money. (2007-2009). Those were both part of a mini Clayburgh revival in the Aughts which was kicked off by two Broadway runs in Naked Girl on the Appalachian Way (2005) and the revival of Barefoot in the Park (2006).
But Clayburgh's heyday was unquestionably in the late 1970s, when she became something like the screen embodiment of Modern Liberated Woman. Clayburgh will always be connected in cultural history to her zeitgeist moment in 1978 when she starred in Paul Mazurky's frisky Best Picture nominee An Unmarried Woman. In the film her husband suddenly leaves her for a younger woman and she starts dating again, becoming a sexually liberated woman as a single mother with the help of randy virile Alan Bates. Clayburgh was a possible winner, too, but Jane Fonda (who she had bested at Cannes tying with Isabelle Huppert for Violette), shared the campaign advantage of headlining a Best Picture nominee with a hot topic (Vietnam); Fonda won.
Clayburgh's second consecutive Oscar nomination can almost be seen a sequel, a bit of afterglow from her first. She's playing two different characters and the second film is more of a comedy but in the first her divorce means she's Starting Over and in the second it's Burt Reynolds's turn. Clayburgh is the new woman in his life.
Though Clayburgh will remain An Unmarried Woman in the historical imagination she was actually A Married Woman. She married the playwright and screenwriter David Rabe exactly one year and three days after An Unmarried Woman was released. How about that? (Does anyone know if the newlyweds attended the Oscars in April 1979? Inside Oscar doesn't say.) Our condolences go out to Rabe and their three children this morning.

The Links Are Alive...
In Contention Tapley's review of Conviction.
New York Magazine Mark Harris great piece on The Social Network in case you haven't read it yet. "I poked Aaron Sorkin..."
Cinema Styles "Coming Home to Tango" a look back at two seminal 70s films and how they age when you age. Interesting stuff. For the record I love Coming Home and don't care for Last Tango in Paris but saw them both in my early 30s.
MUBI remembers Arthur Penn (RIP) We've lost another film great. Time to watch Bonnie & Clyde again.
Flames... on the Side of My Face pays tribute to the late Madeline Kahn, for whom the blog is titled, on her birthday. "Taffeta, darling"
Ruchome Obrazki late addition to the 'Best Shot' party featuring David Fincher's Se7en (1995). Check it out.
Some Came Running has a wonderfut bit on Sally Menke's eye for shots juxtaposed.
Movie | Line offers up my favorite title about the Star Wars in 3D news.
Serious Film 8 voice performances that were worthy of acting nominations.
IGN offers up some mainstream "summer movie awards" as we head into fall.
And finally, Playbill delivers Holy Playclothes-Made-of-Curtains shocking news. The cast of The Sound of Music is reuniting next month on Oprah !!! This will be epic even if we have to hear Ms. Winfrey screaming...

"Julieeeeeeeee AaahNDROOOOOOoosss"...over and over again. Are you dying out there? Now I'm going to have "The Lonely Goatherd" stuck in my head for the rest of the day because this is always what happens to me when someone mentions The Sound of Music.

Sally Menke (RIP). Tarantino Films Will Never Be The Same Again.
Terrible news to report. This morning Sally Menke's body was discovered in Beachwood Canyon. She was 56 years old. It may have been California's extreme heat on Monday when she went missing but details are still emerging. She had been hiking with her dog, a black lab (the dog is okay). The amazing film editor was best known for her work with Quentin Tarantino. She edited all of his feature films.
Christoph Waltz poses with Tarantino's editing queen Sally Menke, during
the awards run for Inglourious Basterds.
So you can thank her in part for the wondrous control of Tarantino's very distinctive pacing, intricate performance shaping (and so many great performances had to have been carefully shaved, trimmed and aided by Sally's deft hands), freeze framing (just mentioned!) and not least of all those incredibly precise long-form action sequences in Kill Bill Vol 1 and Kill Bill Vol 2.
And here's a lovely compilation from Inglourious Basterds of the actors saying "hi Sally" before and after takes to amuse her in the editing room. My favorite is Til Schweiger's. He's so serious in the film but such a goof here.
Heartbreaking in retrospect but so sweet to think about. She must have so enjoyed these moments.
Fine farewells:
Trivia: She was nominated for an Oscar twice for Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds. Here at the Film Experience she won two medals, the bronze for Basterds and a gold medal for Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003) -- I'm still horrified that the editor's branch didn't honor her genius there.

Fine farewells:
- Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) shares his last conversation with her.
- Aint it Cool News Tarantino: "I don't write with anybody. I write by myself. But when it comes to the editing, I write with Sally."
- ArtsBeat She was also hiking when she first heard she got the Reservoir Dogs job.
- Joblo Menke's own words having worked through both of her pregnancies "my babies had Tarantino movies played to them in the womb, but they seem to have turned out OK."
