BREAKING NEWS!!! “FIRST EVER” NOLLYWOOD "LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT" AWARD PRESENTED TO THE PRESIDENT OF GAMBIA?!

A Thrilling New Story!

SEE FULL PICTURES RIGHT BELOW THE SURVEY.

Nollywood professionals are not only being recognized in their home country Africa, now they are also being recognized in the United States of America. Within the past few years, the standard for the Nollywood movie industry has improved as a result of this recognition. One of the pioneers behind the movie awards in America is NAFCA (Nollywood African Film Critic Awards). NAFCA also added an additional honorary section to their award ceremony.

The new section added to the NAFCA awards is called “Life Time Achievement” awards. This award honors exceptional individuals outside the film industry, who have brilliantly gone beyond the call of duty. Despite how new this particular award is to the film industry, it has become very popular and is now recognized all over the world.

NAFCA’s first ever "Life Time Achievement" award was presented to his Excellency President Dr. Yahya Jammeh of Gambia. Correspondents of NAFCA, who were present at the event, say that it was compulsory and appropriate to recognize his Excellency for his contributions to the beautiful country of Gambia.

During our interview with Dr. Olatoye, he revealed that the President was pleasantly surprised and said that he was very motivated and would go far beyond what he had already done for the people of Gambia.

Below is our interview with the President and C.E.O of NAFCA, Dr. Victor Olatoye:

NOLLYWOOD SPOTLIGHT: How was your visit to Gambia?

DR. VICTOR OLATOYE: Where should I start? I guess from the beginning. The way we were received was unexpected because we thought we were going to have about 15 minutes with His Excellency President Dr. Yahya Jammeh and he gave us over 3 hours of his time. The president also told us to cancel our flights that day that he would want to host us for another week. We are really grateful for the Gambian hospitality. During our meeting we laid down our vision and mission and President Jammeh loved them all and when he also promised not to disappoint me, I was like “WOW” I am just a small boy trying to take care of Mama Africa. We went to Gambia to honor the president and we were honored. His Excellency President Dr.Yahya Jammeh is a good man and very patriotic. The VIP dinner with the ministers was great and the live entertainment was out of this world. Because of the warm reception, it is fair to say “We are all Gambians now”. Nothing but good news came out of our meeting with the Gambian leader His Excellency President Dr. Yahya Jammeh, but we don’t want to let the cat out of the bag just yet. I can tell you this much it will be a first and will change Nollywood the way we know it.

NOLLYWOOD SPOTLIGHT: In a recent article by MordernGhana.com, the website quoted His Excellency President Dr. Yahya Jammeh. The president said: “it is one thing to win an award but once you win an award you are challenged either directly or indirectly to redouble your efforts and I am very proud of Africans like you in the Diaspora that know what is going on.” What came to your mind when you heard the president say those words to you and your team?

DR. VICTOR OLATOYE: The first thing that came to mind was “me”? I never expected that comment and we felt truly honored to have heard that from His Excellency President Yahya Jammeh of Gambia. It is one thing to be praised by your peers and it another to be praised by the president of a country.

NOLLYWOOD SPOTLIGHT: You also told MordernGhana.com during an interview that: “I think Africa should have a movie industry that is continental and would recognize African’s continental talents, because nobody is going to expose these talents for us.” What did you mean by that statement?

DR. VICTOR OLATOYE: As much as I would have loved to take credit for that statement, it was His Excellency President Dr. Yahya Jammeh who actually said that. President Jammeh is not only patriotic to the Gambians, but also to Africa. He believes the film industry needs to grow beyond Nollywood and Ghana and should be continental. His Excellency also feels that Africa’s continental talents need to be discovered by the African film industry. An organization like His Excellency’s talent hunt program and Nollywood Film Critics USA had been asked to join.

NOLLYWOOD SPOTLIGHT: Why is the NAFCA Membership Important?

DR. VICTOR OLATOYE: Because we need to take NAFCA to the next level and that requires bringing elite group of filmmakers together from across Africa for a credible award.

NOLLYWOOD SPOTLIGHT: How can people help NAFCA to grow?

DR. VICTOR OLATOYE: Advertise with us, promote us and buy NAFCA tickets. If we could unite people then we can say mission accomplished.

NOLLYWOOD SPOTLIGHT: Where do you see NAFCA 5 years from now?

DR. VICTOR OLATOYE: I would want NAFCA to continue to honor great filmmaking and impact people’s lives positively.

NOLLYWOOD SPOTLIGHT: What advice do you have for upcoming Nollywood entertainers?

DR. VICTOR OLATOYE: I would say love what you do, continue to learn so you can grow because no one knows it all as much as people might want you to believe. Surround yourself with positive people who will help you grow by encouraging you. Be true to yourself, because we all don’t have acting talent and we all cannot sing. No matter how hard I try I can never be P Square. Film Criticism I do, singing I cannot. Never do anything for money and fame. If you do what you love well enough, that thing called money and fame will surely come. Never trade sex for opportunities. “People who see things through the prism of sex end up getting screwed”. Never burn your bridges unless you are a great swimmer, even better than Michael Phelps. Always put God first. Once you have gotten that fame and money, never forget your fans and always stay connected and humble. Finally, one last thing, don’t forget to send my 10% in the mail for this advice. I would want to thank our fans for giving us the opportunity to continue to do what we do and for that I am eternally grateful.

Blow is an extremely short survey; please take a few seconds to answer it. We value your opinion greatly!

WHY IS NOLLYWOOD ACTOR JIM IYKE SO UGLY?!

An Electrifying New Story!

SEE FULL PICTURES RIGHT BELOW THE SURVEY.

Enough with this shenanigans! Everyone who knows Nollywood knows this guy. He has been in the Nigerian movie industry for years! When talking about his “trademark” however, it seems people are not that enthusiastic about his career path and his ability to deliver.

After speaking to several professionals in the Nigerian movie industry as well as Nollywood movie fans alike, no one could pin-point what they didn't like about him or had anything substantially negative to say about him. So then, why is he not as popular as Van Vicker or Majid Michel. Fine! You are right, Van vicker and Majid Michel are Ghana superstars, how about Ramsey Nouah or Mercy Johnson? The reputations of the names previously mentioned are as big as any other upcoming Hollywood artist in Europe!

Since no one can tell us that he don’t look good on-screen or cannot act, let’s put aside his professional attributes or capabilities, we are talking sex appeal. Do you find him physically attractive?

The truth of the matter is, no one has ever "point-blank" asked the following question.

Is Jim Iyke Hot or Not?!

Below is an extremely short survey for you, please take a few seconds to answer it. We value your opinion greatly!

If you think he is not Hot or don’t like him, please tell us why. Leave a comment below.

SHOULD AFRICAN MOVIES MADE IN EUROPE BE CLASSIFIED AS NOLLYWOOD ?!!

A fun new survey for you!

SEE FULL PICTURES RIGHT BELOW THE SURVEY.

Africans in Africa that watch Nollywood films made in the Unites States or the United Kingdom, classify these movies as Independent films or Hollywood movies. Based on our research, the reason why some Africans feel this way is because most of the actors and actresses in these films wear western clothing and tell stories based on African experiences in Europe. Africans in Africa sometimes find it difficult to connect with these stories.

However, Nollywood filmmakers usually select lead actors or actresses that have a solid reputation in Nollywood to star in their movies. This is to maintain some cultural connection and keep or expand Nollywood's current fan base both in Africa and Abroad.

The question to you is this: With the information above in mind, should African movies made in Europe still be classified as Nollywood?

BREAKING NEWS!! LEGENDARY HOLLYWOOD “WARNER THEATER” AGREES TO HOSTS THE 3RD ANNUAL NOLLYWOOD AFRICAN FILM CRITICS AWARDS (NAFCA)?!

An Exciting New Story!

SEE FULL PICTURES RIGHT BELOW THE SURVEY.

Since the 1940s, Warner Theater has showcased Hollywood at its finest. In 1992, the legendary American musician and actor Frank Sinatra performed Live at the theater. The theater also hosts the BET (Black Entertainment Television) award annually. The BET award has the largest “African American” fan base in the United States.

Africans in Africa as well as those in diaspora know that Nollywood is making an aggressive effort to be recognized as a powerful and valid contributor to the film industry. Nollywood has rapidly grown from its parent country Nigeria, to its neighboring African countries. In recent years, Nollywood is also seen moving across Europe and African films are being filmed in countries such as the United Kingdom, United States, and even Asia.

With positive progression in the African movie industry, it has come to attention of many that good work should be recognized and rewarded both in Africa and overseas. A special attention should especially be giving to films positively representing authentic and evolving contemporary African culture. One of the master minds who stood up to the challenge overseas is Dr. Victor Olatoye. The “Nollywood African Film Critics” (NAFC) team headed by Dr. Victor Olatoye, approached the legendary Hollywood Warner Theater owned by the famous Warner Brothers concerning the hosting of the 3rd Annual NAFCA. Through hard work and dedication by the NAFC, the Theater agreed to host one of the biggest events in North America celebrating authentic African culture and Arts!

In light of this tremendous achievement by the “Nollywood African Film Critics, Nollywood Spotlight interviewed the President and CEO of NAFCA, Dr. Victor Olatoye.

Nollywood Spotlight: What is the NAFCA?

Dr. Victor Olatoye : NAFCA is the Nollywood & African Film Critics' Award, also known as the African Oscars. This award is an accolade bestowed by the Nollywood Film Critics USA (the official movie review organization for Nollywood and African films) to recognize excellence of professionals in the African film industry. It is also an honorary award to honor humanitarians, dignitaries, and government official who have positively impacted the lives of citizens. The coveted and prestigious Nollywood & African Film Critics' Award is one of the most prominent award ceremony honoring the African cinema. It is also the only awards to boast of African movie stars from around the world in North America. Nollywood & African Film Critics' Award is designed to promote African Cinema, music and culture worldwide. The prestigious Nollywood & African Film Critics' Awards (African Oscars) are awards of merit and are considered the highest U.S.A. based awards.

Nollywood Spotlight: Who are the founders and CEO of the NAFCA?

Dr. Victor Olatoye: Myself and Troy McNish as well as others on the board of directors. We are also currently conducting interviews with a number of successful business executives who have shown interest in our organization.

Nollywood Spotlight: How do you think Europe currently views Nollywood?

Dr. Victor Olatoye: Europe is joining what I call the “Nollywood Express” I think. Now there are online French publications dedicated to Nollywood, that tells you something right there. It tells you they are hungry for our movies and would want to know about our culture through films. All we have to do from this point onward is to continue to produce quality films and tell compelling stories. I mean stories that would not make you want to slap yourself or turn the T.V off, if you know what I mean? This might be the perfect opportunity to produce some films in French (voice over). The whole world is talking about Nollywood so Europe by analogy cannot be the only exception.

Nollywood Spotlight: What part does the NAFCA play in the re-branding of Nollywood abroad?

Dr. Victor Olatoye: NAFCA is not only re-branding Nollywood abroad we are also doing that at home and throughout Africa. How is this possible? NAFCA does it through our movie reviews, through our newsletters and through Nollywood & African Film Critics’ Awards. I must tell you my sister, if we do not bring credible awards to the Diaspora; the people out here of different cultural backgrounds would not come looking for us and our films. (Unless they have something to gain financially then they might show up). Also I am a firm believer that if we do not tell our own stories someone else will tell them for us and we all know how "accurately" those have been turning out for centuries. NAFCA is primarily set up to recognize excellence of professionals in the African film industry but we also have one of the most credible honorary awards to honor humanitarians, dignitaries, and government official who have positively impacted the lives of citizens. Why is that important? If you honor people who are going beyond the call of duty to impact people’s lives positively, you will possibly encourage others to join what I call the “Do Good Express”. This year we are adding a special NAFCA award, “The Patriot Award” and that is for African business leaders and Africans who have made Mama Africa proud in the Diaspora and at home.

Part of re-branding Nollywood and Africa is the fact that we will be joining other great events that have performed at the legendary Warner Theater. On September 14 we will become the first African Movie award to sign the Guest Book at the Warner Theater. Just to tell you a little bit about the legendary Warner Theater: On August 12, 1943, the movie "This is the Army" premiered there. In 1945, the theater began showing movies exclusively. The theater was renamed in 1947 in honor of its owner, Harry Warner one of the founders of Warner Brothers. In 1992, Frank Sinatra performed there. In 2007, it was the venue for the first annual Library of Congress Gershawin Prize for Popular Song and the recipient of the first Gershwin Prize was Paul Simon. The theater is also home to The BET Honors ceremony, held annually.

For this legendary Warner Theater to agreed to host the 3rd Nollywood and African Film Critics’ Awards also known as the African Oscars on the 14th of September 2013 is history in the making as this is the first African film award to be held at this legendary American Theater. This year’s award will be our biggest to date and with a long list of VIP guests from all works of life to grace this historic occasion, including A list African movie stars, Hollywood stars, Ambassadors, political figures, musicians, dignitaries and over 1700 Nollywood fans from across the globe. Our guest will witness the honoring of noble men and women of Africa as we present them with the coveted golden NAFCA trophies. Warner Theater seats about 1900 people and we are just as excited as the people at the Warner Theater and it is an honor to become part of the Warner Brothers history.

The question to you is this:

<a href="http://www.sodahead.com/entertainment/the-legendary-hollywood-warner-theater-hosts-the-2013-nollywood-african-film-critic-awards-is-t/question-3609333/" title="THE LEGENDARY HOLLYWOOD “WARNER THEATER” HOSTS THE 2013 “NOLLYWOOD AFRICAN FILM CRITIC AWARDS”! SUCCESSFULLY BRIDGED THE GAP BETWEEN NOLLYWOOD AND HOLLYWOOD?!! WHO IS “PASCAL ATUMA” ?!!

A Riveting New Story:

PICTURES AND MOVIE TRAILER ARE RIGHT BELOW THE SURVEY.

Pascal Atuma was born in Umuahia, Abia state, Nigeria to a family of seven. He relocated to the United States in 1995 and graduated from the Kim Dawson Acting College in Dallas, Texas. He moved to Hollywood, California in 2002.

Pascal successfully wrote and produced 7 movies that are currently in the Hollywood and Nollywood Markets. He directed 4 of the 7 movies. #NOLLYWOOD GOSSIP! #TONTO DIKEH HAS DONE IT AGAIN! “ITS OVA”!

A DELICIOUS NEW SURVEY FOR YOU!

PICTURES AND VIDEO ARE RIGHT BELOW THE SURVEY.

It happens every now and then, were an actress given the right opportunity would chose the music industry over the film industry. These selected few still pursue their passion despite discovering their talent in the film industry. Although new fans who never knew their previous work become a bit more receptive of their new work, dedicated movie fans on the other hand are not.

The opposite happened to the highly successful and famous Beyoncé. Her Music fans adored her as a musician but bashed her as an actress. They were only willing to accept the upbeat Beyoncé who had a great voice and did hard dance steps, and refused to approve a resolve or emotional character that only spoke in films.

“One million downloads within 9 hours of music release” www.naijagists.com

Her music video has almost 100,000 views on YouTube.

“…The most controversial actress who rocked Nollywood… ” www.vanguardngr.com

Statistically speaking, Tonto Dikeh’s ability to perform as an actress in Nigeria has never been in question. However, attacks on this young actress have been over her personal life and attitude towards life. One can’t help but think the public thinks that maybe the actress is incapable of handling the lifestyle of a musician in addition to dealing with her harsh lifestyle. Which means a large percentage of the public agrees that Tonto Dikeh “is” capable of delivering as musician and a performing artist?

Nevertheless, I will leave Your response to this survey to reveal the truth!

“…what can one say but wow. Great colors, great lighting, great cinematography, even though some scenes appear to be straight out of Beyoncé’s "Single Ladies". Truthfully, only problem with the video is Tonto Dikeh herself.” 9jaLife

There are many horrible musicians both in Nigerian and the Americans. The visible reality here is the fact that it is no longer enough for you to only know how to sing, you must also be a performer. You must be able to put on a show and make the crowed go crazy. No one understands performing and putting on a show better than today’s pop artists (an avenue in music Tonto has always wanted to sample).

The question to you is this: Let’s be honest, put Tonto Dikeh’s personal life and personality aside. Can Tonto Dikeh deliver as a Performing Artist and an Actress?

**Don't worry, this survey is confidential.**

No one, including myself, will be able to see your personal information.

ALTHOUGH THIS ACTRESS WILL SEE THIS SURVEY, SHE STILL CAN NOT SEE THE NAME, PICTURE, OR INFORMATION OF THE PERSON WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS SURVEY.

BE HONEST AND HAVE FUN!
