According to my mother, women don't masturbate. The fact that I do, and she knows this because she reads what I write and I don't find the need to keep quiet about the subject, is not only upsetting to her but further proof that I "act like a man." A phrase both she and my father have used to describe me on several occasions. My father actually regards it as a compliment, while my mother is hoping her words will kick some sort of conventional ideas of how a lady should act into my brain. No such luck yet, mom.

Despite my mother's thoughts on the subject, women do masturbate. In fact, a lot of them do — and do it often, and it's pleasurable and makes for a better sex life. If you know how to get yourself off, then sex with someone else is that much more satisfying because you're confident with yourself and know your body.

Here are five things that you perhaps didn't know about masturbation. Hopefully these facts will make some of you more open to the subject. Let the climaxing begin!

1. People who have sex regularly masturbate more than those who don't. Weird, right? Well, not really. If you masturbate, you're more likely to be sexually open, and therefore, you know, have sex. Also, as I said above, if you know what you like when you're solo, it will enhance your sexual experience with your partner.

2. More women masturbate than are willing to admit. Actually, this fact shouldn't be very shocking, but perhaps the percentages will astonish you. Most teenagers are already going at it with themselves: Surveys show that before both genders have reached 18, 80 percent of males and 59 percent of females have given masturbation a whirl. As far as people over 18, the numbers get a bit shady. Some research shows that as many as 92 percent of women "admit" to it, while surveys from Kinsey put that percentage anywhere between 50 and 70.

3. Older women masturbate, too. Your sex drive just gets more revved up as you get older. A 2010 Kinsey study found that roughly 30 percent of women in relationships between 60 and 69 years of age had "recently" double-clicked their mouse. For those over 70, "solo masturbation was reported by more than half who were in a non-cohabitating relationship, compared to 12.2 percent among married women."

In this electronic age, it's not safe to be naked anywhere else, even in locker rooms." But her hesitation isn't due to a lack of confidence. "I've been in the business a long time, so it didn't really faze me. I was completely comfortable."

Tisdale brought her mother to her nude shoot. "I've always wanted to be sure my parents approve of what I do," she says. "Even with my tattoos, my mom went with me. The 'believe' tattoo is because my mom always told me to believe." The High School Musical and Hellcats actress does six workouts a week, rotating a boot-camp class, cardio, strength training, and Spinning, but disrobing was actually much less about showing off her hard-earned shape than it was about growing up. "I'm 25, almost 26, but people think of me as much younger because I look young," she says. "Being in this shoot was me saying, 'I'm not just the young girl everybody thinks I am. I'm actually a woman.'"

Cuoco confesses, "I have not told my family about this, and I'll tell you why: Until they see the photos, they won't understand. All a mother or father hears is the word 'naked.' When I told my mom about the shoot, I left out the part about taking my clothes off." The 25-year-old star of The Big Bang Theory says of her preparation for the shoot, "My obsession is yoga, so I was already yogi-ing it every day," she says. "And I did veggies, raw food, and egg whites. So boring!" She was surprised by her own lack of shyness. "I was way more excited than I ever thought I would be. Which made me realize, I'm more comfortable in my own skin than I thought."

The lesbian daughter of a billionaire playboy has laughed off her father's 'marriage bounty' of nearly £40 million to any man who can turn his daughter straight.

One of Hong Kong's richest men, Cecil Chao Sze-tsung, made the offer after his daughter Gigi married her girlfriend of seven years Seab Eav in France.

And surprise, surprise, the offers have already started arriving thick and fast from men all over the globe.

Refusing to accept the gay union, the property and shipping tycoon pledged the fortune to any potential male suitor able to walk Gigi down the aisle at a traditional wedding.

But his daughter, a 33-year-old University of Manchester graduate said she thought the HKD500 million Hong Kong dollar offer - the equivalent of £39.8 million - was 'quite entertaining'.

‘War veterans from the US, someone from Ethiopia, from Istanbul, South America, Portugal, really just from all over the world,’ she said.

One American suitor wrote: ‘I’m interested in the offer. I am a male person, who also happens to be gay.’

Another put up his brother, a body double to George Clooney in the 2008 film Leatherheads, as a potential mate.

The hopefuls, however, seem to be wasting their time.

Miss Chao insists she will not be ditching her partner – no matter the quality of man her father’s millions can buy.

Hong Kong billionaire Mr Chao, 76 – who claims to have slept with 10,000 women – has refused to accept his daughter’s sexuality, hence his ‘marriage bounty’.

‘My father has an interesting interpretation of me,’ said Mrs Chao, a Manchester University graduate.

‘Homosexuality is still an uncomfortable issue for many people.’

She refused to confirm reports of her nuptials on April 4, stating: 'I'm not afraid to admit anything. But I do want to respect my parents.

'Let time be the witness.'

‘I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor – the important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted,’ he said of the ideal husband for his daughter.

‘Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks. She is devoted to her parents, is generous and does volunteer work,’ he told the South China Morning Post.

Same-sex marriages are not recognised in Hong Kong.

According to reports, the spat between Mr Chao and his daughter erupted last week when she announced at an event in Beijing that she tied the knot with her long-term lover, Sean Eav, five months ago.

A regular on the city’s social circuit and in celebrity magazines, Mr Chao has never been married. Gigi is the oldest of his three children with three mothers.

In addition to the dowry, he has also offered to start his potential son-in-law up in his own business.

He said the prize money was ‘an inducement to attract someone who has the talent, but not the capital, to start his own business’.

Miss Chao graduated from university in 1999 with a degree in architecture. She went on to work for two years with prominent British architect Sir Terry Farrell.

The 20 shots are part of Simone's new exhibit which opens next month at the Dash Gallery in Tribeca. She said she wanted to shoot people naked in the street doing regular things, 'not especially posing, or being naked, but doing whatever'

Once Erica got the idea for the exhibit, she decided to step out from behind the camera and do a number of self portraits in the nude, sometimes wearing only a variety of accessories, performing mundane activities

Photographers are often said to bare their souls through their pictures.

But Parisian Erica Simone has taken this to the next level by literally laying herself bare - she has photographed herself in nothing but her birthday suit on the streets of New York.

The 25-year-old has turned doing daily routines in the city to works of art simply by removing her clothes.

And Miss Simone made the daring decision to step out from behind the camera and go au naturel in a series of self-portraits taken in and around the Big Apple.

Speaking to MailOnline she said: 'At first it was like, "Can I really do this?" I was into the idea, but I didn't totally have the [nerve] to do it - I'm not totally an exhibitionist.

'But I managed to do it on my first day of shooting in the West Village and I didn't even get arrested.

'I think that was just a combination of good timing and luck, and it is not as if I just spent the whole day walking around naked. I was fully clothed until I was ready to take the shot.'

'It's not about sex. It's crazy that it's illegal to be naked. The whole process was really liberating and it made me feel freer and more comfortable in my own skin and not be ashamed of my body.'

In the pictures, she rides the subway, checks out library books and shovels the snow on the sidewalk outside her apartment - all in the nude.

The 20 shots are part of Simone's new exhibit Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen, which opens next month at the Dash Gallery in Tribeca.

Miss Simone said the inspiration for the exhibition came to her during Fashion Week two years ago.

She said: 'I was sitting around thinking about fashion and what would we be if we were naked and what if we didn't have fashion to show who we were, our status, how much money we had, all these things.

'Then I got the photographic idea of shooting people naked in the street, but just doing regular things, not especially posing, or being naked, but doing whatever.'

The pretty 25-year-old said she was not sure if she herself could go through with it but was intrigued by the challenge of staging the shots - which she took using a remote sensor - and stripping down to her birthday suit.

She said the general public were very accepting of her nudity and she did not have any bad experiences while doing it.

'Most people were laughing, smiling or applauding and cheering. They seemed OK with it,' she said. 'The most challenging one was on the subway. I had to ride the whole way from West 14th Street to the end of the line to get the right shot.

'The only person I told was the guy next to me as he had to hold my coat. But by the time some people even found out about it, I was clothed again.'

A young woman born without arms, is inspiring hundreds of thousands of YouTube viewers with videos which demonstrate how she carries out a range of daily tasks using her feet.

From eating with chopsticks to applying makeup the 25-year-old American, who goes by the nickname Tisha UnArmed, reveals how she enjoys an independent lifestyle despite her disability.

She posted her first video titled 'Eating a sandwich with my feet' just three weeks ago, and she has since attracted more than 300,000 hits worldwide prompting her to launch a Twitter account and Facebook fan page.

Tisha explains that she was born with no arms, and instead she has little holes where her upper limbs should be. Her right leg is curved and also shorter than her left leg, by about eight inches, with her heel turned outwards.

She says there is no explanation for the defects, adding: 'My mother didn’t do any drugs, there was no explosion of chemicals, she didn’t dye her hair or anything.'

Despite doctors recommending a right leg amputation when she was a toddler, her mother refused pointing out that her daughter would then only be left with one limb.

Tisha said: 'My mum was like: ''What are you kidding me, she has no arms and you want to cut her right leg off? That's not right, she's only going to have one limb.''

Dissatisfied with shoe lifts, Tisha now has a specially designed prosthesis which was created to fit the shape of her right heel and foot.

To date Tisha, who lives alone with her dog Jack, has posted videos showing how she makes and eats a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, how she applies her makeup, how she takes a shower, how she gets dressed and how she drives her car.

Tisha says that getting dressed is one of the most time-consuming rituals, and that it's easier for her to wear simple items of clothing such as tees, lose trousers and dresses.

Holding a small rod with a fish hook attached to the end, between her toes and in her mouth she demonstrates how she puts on a bra, trousers and can even do up buttons using a few special moves.

She said: 'Getting dressed in the morning can be difficult when you don't have arms. If I decided to wear a button up shirt or tight pants it would take longer.

'A lot of what I wear has to do with how easy it is to get on. for example I can't wear skinny jeans, besides the fact that i just don't like they way they look they would be extremely hard to get on and off.'

To drive, Tisha uses an adapted car which has been fitted with a range of special devices including a left foot accelerator, a turn knob on the steering wheel and a voice command computer box which controls functions such as the turn signal and horn.

She steers with her right foot and uses her left foot to work the peddles, while special buttons in the headrest also allow her to activate the voice command computer box.

Rasa Veliute holds a puma who lives in her apartment in Klaipeda, Lithuania. She took three cubs home four months ago when their mother refused to care for them.

A LITHUANIAN woman says she has been raising three pumas in her three-room apartment after fearing for their lives at the local zoo.

Rasa Veliute, a 23-year-old volunteer at the zoo in Klaipeda, a Baltic Sea port town, says she took the cubs home four months ago after their mother began neglecting them.

The pumas - also known as mountain lions or cougars - are named Kipsas, Gipse and Kinde. Veliute says they eat a lot of chicken and get along well with her East European shepherd dog.

There is no Lithuanian law barring keeping the animals at home, and the zoo did not object to Veliute's actions. But Veliute told reporters Friday that the pumas have grown fast and will likely return to the zoo this summer.

“They pay for pictures and some like me to balance things on my bum — often plates of doughnuts or pizzas to show how big it is.

“At first I found these requests strange, but now I love it because I know it’s making my fans happy.”

However, Barbie’s extraordinary figure does cause problems.

She admits that her humongous hips regularly get stuck in turnstiles.

On planes and trains Barbie requires two seats and she often gets bruises using public toilets because her bottom is so wide that it jams against toilet roll holders.

She said: “Often I cannot fit into dressing rooms in shops and at work I have a special chair to accommodate my bottom’s unique width and shelf.

“I constantly knock over displays in supermarkets when shopping.

“I am a wide load and sometimes it’s difficult to judge whether I can fit through certain spaces. When eating out I have to phone ahead to restaurants to ensure they have booth seating, because I can never have a normal chair.”

Barbie, who drives a minivan because cars are too small for her frame, was chubby as a child.

But she says her extreme pear-shaped body started to develop when she hit puberty.

“I was teased relentlessly at school for my size and lived in tent-like dresses. Looking like this was a daily battle as a teenager and I was very miserable. When I left school I weighed 300 pounds (21st 6lb) and half of that was in the butt region.”

After three pregnancies, Barbie now weighs more than 500 pounds (35st 10lb) — but is no longer bullied for it.

She says: “I am healthy and happy that finally my unusual figure is celebrated rather than criticised.

“I work very hard and I am helping my kids with some extra money from my modelling. I want to show other girls with big bottoms you can be sexy and successful. I’m like a giant Kim Kardashian.

“My bum is a beauty and despite once hating it, I’d never change it.”
