The world is rapidly changing! New and upcoming African designers are boldly incorporating western styles into their private designs. In recent years, we previewed several reputable African designers creating and displaying styles that are unique and modern to the traditional African attire. We noticed that these new styles were accepted by a majority however, they were rejected by the rest.
On the 13th of April 2013, the famous Ghanaian catwalk trainer based in Germany, appeared at the Miss Ghana beauty pageant in a contemporary African attire. The crowd went wild when the catwalk trainer sashayed onto the stage. Ernest Look (catwalk trainer) was invited on as one of the judges at the beauty pageant.
It is safe to say that everyone at the event could not stop talking about Ernest Look’s outfit. Some celebrated its unique style and others smeared it with rude remarks. It was funny to see that even in Europe, some Africans are not very accepting of new things.
On the other hand, we see American pop sensation Beyoncé and Katy Perry in their own unique interpretation of the African attire (Pictures are below). The outfits they were spotted in was openly accepted by both Africans and Europeans. In fact, fans of these celebrities as well as designers, encouraged Europeans and Africans in diaspora to wear more African clothing so as to encourage trade between Europe and Africa.
